Interesting Bill Gates Article

Perhaps my nose isn't as sensitive as some, but we have never had an odor from our travel trailer toilet. And I haven't even experienced much odor even when dumping. It is pretty much a sealed system, even when you are dumping.

I give Bill Gates credit for his work with 3rd world countries and their problems. Sanitation is certainly one of them and no doubt having better smelling pit/vault toilets is just one of many problems to address. The objective is better sanitation and less illness and perhaps the better smell will result in more use of toilet facilities. Good work, Bill.

Sounds like a better odor cover upper. Kind of like putting perfume in kitty litter. Lets one ignore that they have a load of poop they need to do something about.

If your toilet smells, there is something wrong. Rose scented poo still smells nasty.

As far as 3rd world toilets, composting toilets make a lot more sense than flush toilets as the water system to feed them and dispose of the waste are really expensive and use up limited fresh water supplies. We have one on the boat and no odor. In a rural residential setting, the composting process can be allowed to finish and you have fertilizer.
