My son was a Cracker Barrel manager years ago. Corporate instructed store managers to use the terminology as you were told.
If you ask the manager if you can park they were instructed to state, "I can't tell you that you can park, but I won't ask you to leave."
This verbiage, supposedly, relieved Cracker Barrel of any legal liability, if a problem developed.
I park at Cracker Barrels, but arrive late in the evening after the dinner rush.
