- DutchmenSportExplorerDid some searching on the net. Here's some current available job postings. You be the judge. You also have to consider the "cost of living" for the local area too (The price of housing, which is CONSIDERABLY less in Northern Indiana than ANYWHERE in NY or California!!!) The cost of living in Northern Indiana dropped considerably a few years ago when the job market plummeted. It's just now rebounding. That's what the broadcast was REALLY all about.
Fast Search on the Internet returned a couple examples:
1st Shift Assembly/Cabinets - Manufacturing
The position pays $12-$14 p/h to start based on experience.
75+ Production & Manufacturing Goshen Positions
Specialized Staffing Solutions - 109 reviews - Goshen, IN 46528
$12 - $17 an hour
10 - Production RV Panel*. Working with fiberglass and robotics to assist in the production of outside RV wall...
Here's an interesting bit of information, two tabs on this page, "Salary" and "Hourly Rate" Check them both: Click here - firemedic08ExplorerI was an Assembly line worker in a Refrigerated Trailer plant, and I made a good living. My wife at the time, worked as a waitress. I did like the over time, but I didn't need it.
- dodge_guyExplorer III agree. The only ones making a good living are the higher ups in the RV manuf's. I can't see an assembly line worker making a life changing salary.
But either way I had to laugh when he talked about the quality of work going into the RV's!!! Watching the videos of them building RV's you can see how they ignore QC in he building process. - theoldwizard1Explorer IIDoes anyone really think an assembly line worker at and RV plant can make a "good living". Maybe if husband and wife work and throw some OT on top.
- DutchmenSportExplorerWell, "bust my britches!" I've had access to WIPB (Channel 49.1, 49.2 and 49.3) for years now but never paid any attention to it. I knew they were PBS stations, but never thought to actually see what they air. To my surprise, yes! I went to the WIPB web site, and am really impressed.
I did enjoy the show. I think it speaks volumes. I remember just a few years ago the down-turn Elkhart and Goshen, took in the RV industry. Makes me glad to know there is a strong comeback now.
I think the show was nicely done. It presented a good balance between the younger generation and the older generation of RVers, and mixed in a bit of full-time seekers too.
I also enjoyed getting insights into the local happenings outside of the RV industry, including the housing building boom right now.
The only thing that really grabbed my attention in a negative way, was when he talked about the 7 year cycle. Make me wonder if we will be experiencing another slump in the RV industry again in our futures? (I hope not!) - Mike__RoseExplorerThanks for sharing the video. Cannot wait for our new RV to be delivered on April 17,
- Snowman9000ExplorerI'll watch it tonight. Thanks.
- firemedic08ExplorerGood Video.
