International Phone cards...

Tomorrow I head south for a month in the deserts of Nevada and California. To have a cel phone plan that allows me call home regularly is fairly costly in the long run. $20 for 100 minutes. I thought maybe I would buy a 'burner' phone and use the cards that seem to be good to be true. 1 cent a minute to Canada to any phone..landline or cel.

Any thoughts?

  • Are you bringing the Internet along on your journey? You can make free calls to US and Canada from a G-Mail account (works from Chrome or Firefox on a laptop).

Alternately, you can buy a pre-paid Android phone (Walmart, 7-11, etc), and use Google Voice to make "free" calls to Canada, it will still cost you USA airtime.
