Years ago there was an unexpected snow storm in Wash, DC. For whatever reason, all government employees were sent home at 9 a.m. This caused massive traffic problems and it took my carpool three hours to get out of Crystal City onto Rt. 66 to head home. We were stopped on Rt. 66 and could see an apartment building down off the side of the interstate. Myself and the other woman climbed over the guard rail and hikeed down the hill to the apartment building to find a bathroom. By this time we had been in the car for over 5 hours. After knocking on several doors and not getting an answer we finally found someone home. This extremely nice lady invited us in to use the facilities and explained that she knew her husband was also out there in that traffic. She also insisted on making us a thermos of hot chocolate with extra cups to take back to the other three people in our car. We tried not to take the thermos since we would not be able to return it but she would not let us leave without it. We both gave her a big hug before leaving and hiking back up the hill to find the car. I would let someone in need use the facilities...
