I don't have a public restroom. If I weren't pulling it at the time, and had to go, I'd have to head for the woods or hold it until I found a place that I could use. I'd never ask someone on the road if I could use theirs and I'd think it takes a lot of courage for someone to ask to use mine. People just don't respect anyone's property any more and I don't trust a stranger to take care of my bathroom facilities, or my 5er in general. We remove our shoes when we enter it, but I'd almost bet my next paycheck that a stranger wouldn't think anything about removing shoes without being told to do so.
If you think I'm a little selfish in my answer, so what.
What would you have to explain? It's your rig. You don't owe anyone any explanations.
Besides, before everyone got the entitlement frame of mind, my parents used to pull over to the side of the road and open the front and back door for our bit of privacy. It worked then. I can still work. People surely aren't as modest these days as we were in the 60s when I was a kid.

If you tell them the tank is full or the facilities are broke, then you and your wife will have some explaining to do when you have similar needs, especially if in a trailer and your movement to same is obvious to the 200 folks behind you.
