This happened to us a few years ago when we returned from spring break. We spent several hours on an interstate due to a terrible accident ahead. Two teenage girls came up and asked to use our bathroom and we said yes. No one else ever approached us but we did see a bunch of people heading up a slight hill during that time.
When we first were stopped, many people were out of their vehicles trying to see ahead and grumbling. Once word came back that an accident killing several college kids had occurred, people visibly settled down to wait patiently. I know I felt great sympathy for the families of the victims.
