Interstate Bathroom....er....etiquette

Another naïve question from a newbie, but frankly something I've pondered even before we bought the TT.

So, you're cruising down the interstate and suddenly the traffic flow stops. A bad wreck, fire, police action, the President getting a haircut, whatever.

After sitting there a couple of hours, someone finally walks up and knocks on your door/window and asks if they can use the restroom in your RV. What's the proper way to handle that??????

If you let them, you know good and well they're going thru your stuff, and as soon as they get out the next 200 people behind you will be lined up to go as well.

If you tell them the tank is full or the facilities are broke, then you and your wife will have some explaining to do when you have similar needs, especially if in a trailer and your movement to same is obvious to the 200 folks behind you.

You could just tell them no. I paid the gazillion dollars for this rig and it's for my use only. (BTW, I'm ok with this approach)

We're headed down 2,000 miles of I-40 in 8 weeks and this is something I need to know. What's normal, reasonable, acceptable ??
  • I was in monument valley at a truck stop when a tour bus group from England spotted me outside my rig. They couldn't believe we tow such large trailers here. Of course, they all wanted a tour. I passed on that idea quickly.

  • if you did let them in and they somehow got hurt leaving , slip, trip, fall, rolled ankle, 1) would your insurance cover you, 2) would the "good Samaritan law" cover you ?
  • I would say no.
Why? Because my RV is my home and I do not let strangers in my home.
  • DW says she would escort them in and escort them out, I would just flat out say no, and point them in the direction of someone else's MH or trailer, it's to much of a liability, they slip and fall on the stairs and next thing you being sued for a nice guy
  • I would answer it this way. If someone was driving past your house and decided the burritos just proved too much and pulled into your drive; would you let them in your home to use the facilities?
  • I've thought of that exact question myself. I'm curious to see what others have to say. I really don't think I could turn someone away if they were in dire straights. Especially if I'm going to be at a park later that has a dump station. However, I wouldn't let them inside the RV without me being in there.

Yep just get a Junk Yard Dog and station him at the door :B

But in reality the DW has a soft heart and would say yes especially if it were kids.
