I believe somebody is confusing "inverters" with "converters." Not necessarily you. The former take 12 volt DC power from a battery and make it into 120 volt AC current. There being no such thing as a AC battery of any voltage, it is hard to see how or why one would want/need an inverter that also charges batteries.
The latter take 120 volt AC and convert it to 12 volt DC, and that will charge batteries. That you have a 3-stage converter is good; it will do the job of fully charging and maintaining your battery.
