4 pages later, the OP has some good info, some opinion, some bad intel (like balancing weight between tires...) and some conjecture.
Yet no additional info given by the OP. Like are you going to haul lead or feathers.
Either you want and are within the capacity of a single or you need a double.
I've had flat tires like anyone else. Single, double axle, car, truck, inside duals whatever.
Flats don't happen often, so who cares. Have a flat, change it. Move on.
Yes a tandem with a flat, bad bearing, whatever can be chained up. No way in he!! a person is going to chain up an axle who can't change a flat. Besides that's reserved for last ditch efforts or unusual conditions. Not just flat tires. Unles should happen to not have a spare tire for whatever reason, yet have heavy enough straps, chains, binders and actually have a trailer that you can physically accomplish that. Not a lot of trailers have somewhere to hook that up.
What you will find is typical old man can't teach an old dog new tricks opinions here. "Their way" is not only the best way, but the only way, dontcha know...
