I'm facing the same question, however our trip is from Florida to the Grand Canyon starting on September 11th. We have our reservations for Trailer Village at the Canyon, and also for a few days at Moab afterwards. Reading the replies here, I'm assuming that we'd be fine in September just calling ahead for stops enroute, even though our travel days will include a weekend.
