I don't sweat non holiday Monday-Wednesday reservations during the summer and in fact plan to book a site to view the Perseids at the end of July. Anticipate no problems getting a reservation btwn Aug. 10-13.
Haven't seen run-off/specific overnight locales at popular NE state and Fed parks since the mid '80's. I suspect computers and the reserveamerica system has a lot to do with that.
