I've already bookmarked the Tehachapi Loop, the Williams Loop and the Keddie Wye (Railfan), Bodie, Yosemite, Lassen, Shasta, RNP, etc.
So far your plans are great! My choices, start in Santa Barbara( forget Southern Calif.) and do the whole coast all the way through Oregon to Astoria.
