Ex-software engineer here too. Trained my replacements in India then got the big boot. Collected unemployment and sub-pay until they ran out. A lot of ex-coworkers contacted me about positions where they were currently working. Looked at our situation, talked it over with the wife and retired at 59 & 1/2. Just wasn't in the mood to start a new job competing with young college grads. 5 plus years later and I'm glad I did it.
