Is my Catalytic Heater working properly?

I recently purchased a 'reconditioned' Olympian Wave Catalytic Heater. I've never owned one before, so I'm not sure what to expect. When running on high, I expected the entire pad would be glowing uniformly, but the bottom, and especially the bottom left is glowing the brightest. Nearer to the top, it doesn't appear to be glowing at all. Is this normal?
  • My slides incorporate flex lines for the LP feed of the range and fridge. Is there a difference?

    No offense meant, just wondering.
  • I wasn't referring to the type of hose, but the installation: you can't install a permanent gas line in an RV- or anyplace else- where it's forced to pivot/flex repeatedly as it must on a cupboard door.

But since you mention type: that looks to me like garden variety portable appliance gas line- also wrong for permanent installation.
  • tell me.... What is the difference between that cabinet mount 'lp gas hose'
and the one on a portable barbecue, or the one connecting your stove top

as long as it can flex and not kink or chaff, it is safe

people use flex hose on their 'extend a stay' or barbecue or out door heater, or coleman camp stove

These photos from google search show a pretty neat install in the door of a RV Cabinet.

I for one sure hate all the noise the OEM Furnace Blower makes as well as the battery drain when camping off the power grid.

    Those pics sure get around!

For anyone contemplating an install on a door like that one: Permanent connection of a gas line subjected to that kind of flexing is a HUGE no-no....

    See page 8. LINK
  • ours came with the RV, don't know what it looked like new
the top never glows, it is brightest, at the lower left where the lp enters

  • Mine doesn't all glow, even on high. But it does put out more heat.
