Is my Invisibrake working correctly?

We had an Invisibrake installed today. Everthing seemed fine the first 20 miles or so. When I braked, the dash light came on indicating the towed vehicle was braking. But then a few times the light came on, then it didn't, sometimes it would come on well after I braked the motorhome.

Could this be normal behavior of the invisibrake?
  • We actually had a supplemental brake that kept braking the toad and we didn't know it. The relay that was supposed to light up on the dash had quit working because of the distance back to the toad. We fortunately were only going about 30 miles to our first fuel stop. When we exited the coach, we could smell the toad brakes. The tires were flat spotted and the hubs were at 300 degrees. Ended up replacing all the tires, brakes and rotors. In the next month the tow bar failed with multiple breaks in the welds. Ditched that brake for a different brand that has a more informative dash info center. It works great and we've not had anymore problems. I like having more information on the dash rather than just one light. Also we added the newer TPMS which shows us the temp of the tires, so we won't have the same thing happen again.

Did the Supplemental Braking manufacturer cover any of the damage?
  • Hopefully, all is well. The Invisibake was faulty. They replaced it. Seems to be fine now.

No. They did rebuild the brake unit for the umpteenth time, would not replace it. It was out of warranty, but never worked right after that so we bought one by a different manufacturer. We've not had any problem with the Blue Ox Patriot.
