Several people have mentioned the use of FB groups as growing. I have joined a number, but have found that on this forum, we have more knowledgeable people willing to help others. More of the FB groups have people that seem to have absolutely NO IDEA of anything to do with an RV, and everybody else saying just go for it with no clue as to the reality. I see lots of really off the wall questions that people are jumping into things without doing any research and on this forum, most posters tend to recommend going slowly and doing research. Different types of folks? I have a tendency to research anything to death before I go forward.
Among other issues I have with it, there is no way in Facebook to concentrate and categorize the various topical themes like you can in a discussion forum. The two formats simply don't really connect for ease of information location and dissemination.
Basically, my impression of Facebook (from occasional use) and Twitter (never even looked at it) is that they are mostly fluff, opinion, and misinformation. Carrying a serious and informative discussion to a reasonable conclusion, then trying to look it up again a year later for reference, just ain't gonna happen.
I would not say they are just fluff and misinformation. But there is (in their current state) no way to get the structure that is found on a dedicated forum. I like FB but for research you cannot beat a threaded forum in my opinion.
