Sorry DiskDoctr, the Mission Statement of the national parks is to preserve and 'protect' these treasures. They need to be managed - and they most definitely are.
Not everyone would protect them if left to roam freely. In Yellowstone, the geyser/mud pot/hot springs need to be regularly clean out because people throw trash in them - just a very small example - and this happens even though they are managed. Law Enforcement is minimal in the parks. They can't be everywhere!
