Anybody get their Jeep recall notice yet? The one about a rear end accident fire hazard. I called the dealer and was told to wait for a letter from JeepThey are supposed to install a hitch to protect the gas tank. They agreed to do this improvement last June and am still waiting for a notice to arrive.

We are still waiting.I was planning on a trailer hitch and may have to go ahead and buy one before the recall comes through.

We are also still waiting but I have already had a type III hitch installed six years ago.

I installed a Reese Class III hitch on my 97 GC 4 years ago. They will still want to inspect the aftermarket hitch for sharp edges and may still replace it with the new hitch. It sure is taking them a while. I have 2 family members that need this done and was going to install myself until I found out they still need to inspect.

I only got a recall for the airbag.

Thanks everybody for the info. I currently have a Reese hitch on my Liberty that was installed by an RV shop. It has some nasty protrushions {that could puncture the tank}near the gas tank so I'm driving the toad as little as possible until I can get the hitch replaced.Unless I get my notice soon, I will replace it with a factory hitch myself. Maybe Jeep is counting on this?

Looks like the east coast is getting them first.

I'll bug our local dealer here in CA. So far, every Liberty I see has no new hitch.

My hitch was installed today (30 days from the day I first contacted my local Jeep dealer). The dealer is getting an average of one set of parts/week but says he expects the pipeline to fill quicker in the near future. Before the question is asked, yes, it was totally on Jeep's tab.

The reason I ask is that Jeep may be stalling to have us worry and have us pay for the hitch ourselves.

I received my notice today and called for an appointment to have the hitch installed. I was told that the parts are not readily available but that the dealer should receive more parts next week and then they will call me to schedule to schedule the work.
