Jeep toad rear auxiliary lights-where to mount them

I want to put auxiliary (magnetic type) lights on the rear of my jeep unlimited-which is my new toad vehicle. The roof is fiberglass and the rear bumper is plastic so I am having a hard time finding something to attach the lights to. I thought about putting some kind of a bracket in the Jeep's tow hitch, but I am planing on putting a bike rack in that hitch so I don't believe that will work.

Not really interested in running a diode system as I only plan on towing this 2-3 times per year.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Scott

  • I drilled in lights into my taillights for both my jeeps. Looks awesome, and not permanent (so to speak) as I just ran a flat four cable from the taillights to the front and plug them into a 4 to 7 adapter. Less than $100 did two vehicles and the taillights are very functional.

  • What wilanddiJ said but use double stick foam tape to hold the steel sheets. Then it's reversible back to original condition if you sell the jeep.
You all must have better experience with double back tape than I have. I wouldn't trust it to hold during hiway travel. IMO, four small holes in a black plastic bumper are easily hidden with the correct size hole plug from Ace HW come selling time.

Thanks for this idea-I'm all about not putting anything permanent on so this might just work.

  • Screw a correctly sized piece of sheet steel to the top of each side of the plastic bumper and mount the mag lights on the steel.
  • On my 78 CJ-5 I just wired in another complete lighting system. On yours it seems as though you could use a dual receiver and have your bike carrier and some other attachment for your lights.

Once installed a "Cooltech" harness doesn't care how many times it is used per year.
