purging new tanks is important and necessary for proper filling and safety by preventing odorant oxidation and possible internal tank rusting…
purging removes all air and replaces it with propane vapor (not liquid) before filling with propane liquid… it could mean the differences of appliances operating right or at all in a few instances… it could also prevent regulator freeze-ups at 2 AM and making mama a very unhappy camper… often but not all new tanks have shipping air in them that could prevent filling at all…
all propane distributers should be properly trained and have properly trained personal… if they didn’t know what they were doing or know how to do it correctly I would find a different refilling station…
