(Side story)... Yesterday, we were having lunch next to a couple who moved to Palm Springs from the Sonoma/Napa area. They lost everything in the wine country fires in October. Hearing the experience first hand was very sad and scary.
This couple lost EVERYTHING. They even had a brand new Winnebago Class-B (Mercedes Sprinter chassis) with only 150 miles on the odometer that was burnt to a crisp (showed me the picture).
They lost 20 of their neighbors as the fire came at through at night. They said the automatic warnings came through on the landlines, not cell phones (they personally didn't have a landline).
They watched the fire inching closer from a distance as they lived on a hill and decided to leave even although they were not in immediate danger. Two and half hours later, their house was consumed. It just breaks your heart hearing it firsthand.
Safe travels,
MM.
