I love the arrogant put downs of us working slobs who let the government hold $20 a week out of our pay so that we can buy that new generator or take a little trip in March. People who have been getting a $2,000/year refund are now surprised when it is only $1,800. My daughter, who has a bookkeeping/tax preparation service is hearing from a lot of disappointed taxpayers.
I'm not sure who you are referring to about the arrogant put downs, but it is important to differentiate between tax liability and refund. It appears that you are implying people would be happier to pay higher taxes as long as they get a refund.
Maybe sarcasm? Not sure. I am always surprised at the number of people I talk to that think they don't pay taxes because they get a refund. I would rather split my direct deposit between a checking and savings account and keep the cash. Granted the interest on a savings account is the same as the free government loan. But a least I have access to my money the entire year if I need it.
