Just want a good AM portable radio

I don't listen to FM, just AM. I bought a high dollar small AM/FM/sideband/emergency blah blah blah radio; I think German made starts w/ Gund---???? Any way besides the sleep, scan, clock and rest of BS- AM was marginal except for the Mexican stations.
Any one have a suggestion? Want small, 8-10"x2"x5-6"??? Years ago had an ol ivory colored dial AM only radio that took 8 C batteries; worked great. Didn't use for several years and batteries ate it up :-(

    Grundig perhaps? They are usually fairly sensitive. If you can attach an antenna on it, it might do well.
    If you're beyond the multifunction radio and just want an AM only, it will be an effort to find one. AM/FM will be easier to find. There are some good ones out there for portables. I have an old GE portable and it never fails to pick up a few stations.

    This RCA gets good reviews as does this Sony.

    Go to eBay and search for Superadio. GE, RCA and Radio Shack all sold the same units. They are no longer made but you should be able to find a nice one on eBay.

    Most of the current AM/FM radios are reasonably good for FM but it seems AM is an afterthought.

    However there are a few companies that are marketing good quality AM radios, among them is: C. Crane

    The best quality radio I found was from C CRANE with their CC RADIO PLUS model. This runs on both 120VAC or D-CELLS. Apparently my CC RADIO PLUS has been replaced with a newer model CC RADIO 2...



    Be sure to also include the nice carry protection cover.

    Sony ICF-7600. You have to spend some money here. Mine has been on continuously for6 years. I've traveled all over the world with it.

    I have not owned one but the C Crane radios have had a good reputation for long range AM distance reception for many years. It would be nice if they added the 121 / 243 MHZ aircraft band for us "old timers" :)

    I just purchased a Panasonic model RF-2400 AM/FM portable radio for my wife from Amazon for her bathroom. Received it yesterday (Sunday). Seems to be a decent radio. Total cost was $36.99. I don't know where you can buy a radio with AM only. Hope this helps.
