Keeping Rv Customers out

The posts about Wal Mart signs brought this post about.
We tried to go shopping at Wal Mart In Jackson Tn. Couldn't because they have barriers at about 10 ft.
Some obviously don't want our business. No way were we going to park 15 miles away, unhook, and spend the night to buy a few groceries etc.

Those low overhead barriers might keep rv rigs out but their 'primary' reason is to keep the 80,000# semi tractor/trailer rigs out of the main parking lot.

Deliveries in the back or side where the drive area is thicker or concrete.

Lot cheaper to heavily pave just a small delivery area vs couple acres of parking lot.
Salina KS Walmart does this as well for the same reason.
  • There are barriers at some of the main entrances to the Walmart on Vann Drive in Jackson, because the parking lot is small and overloaded. No problem if you just go to the entrance between Walmart and Sams. And it is much easier to get in there. We see lots of campers and Motor Homes in there every day. To get a bit closer, you can drive down between Walmart and Sams, there are usually some space there. Because of the heavy traffic, most rigs try to park well away from directly in front of the stores. There is a big level parking area down by Sams which is usually empty except for camping rigs. We see rigs overnight in both parking lots, and there are three major chain resturants by a short walk across the lot. Come visit, you are always welcome. If Jackson is too packed for you, come on over to the one in Lexington, there is always room there.

  • I have seen some wal marts do and some don't have the bars. Was there not another lot close by to park and walk over from there? I think the bars are more to keep out the truckers but I also think some have done it so no oversized vehicles are allowed. I would assume it might be a local town ordinance. I know lately I have seen signs saying NO TRUCK PARKING ALLOWED by all the entrances and when I asked the workers they said the current MGR's don't want the trucks parking there anymore some nights I have counted 20 trucks and I know a few drivers who were parking and even dropping trailers for several days and were drivers who live in town. There are still a few trucks each night but not as many but I do still see rv'ers parked overnight. So it seems that he wants the truckers to go some where else. BTW there is a campground near by and the town hasn't said anything about rv'ers staying over nor trucks so it's gotta be the MGR who doesn't want the truckers. Although I have seen a few rv'ers taking advantage of the free parking and staying several days which may lead to a total ban someday.
  • Semi's have to get in for deliveries. Just go in the "back entrance" and stay off to the side, out of the way.
