Keeping RV registered in different state after moving?

I currently live in Washington and will be registering my vehicle in WA. I will then move to California at some point, but want to keep my RV registered in WA. I am not doing this to avoid taxes...

BTW When I submitted my exemption the BOE suggested I pay the use tax just so there would be no penalties while they reviewed the case. I suggested they reread my 100+ pages of detailed log and receipts.
