Keeping RV registered in different state after moving?

I currently live in Washington and will be registering my vehicle in WA.

I will then move to California at some point, but want to keep my RV registered in WA.

I am not doing this to avoid taxes (sales, income) or anything like that - I simply want to store my RV in WA and keep it registered up there, and I plan on being up there a significant amount of time living in it.

Of course with moving to California I will have a CA drivers license.

Are there any issues with this? Does anybody have a vehicle registered in a different state than where they live?

  • been there done that.

Once you change your drivers license to California your car insurance company will call you and give you x amount of days to find an insurance representative in the state your drivers license is in and change your insurance over.

Now you are left with the MH registered in WA and insured thru CA. Get in an accident and you will certainly run into problems with coverage.

It gets messy, I tried and it and it is not working.

For it to all go well you have to keep your drivers license in WA. Then you can keep it registered and insured there.

But that brings up what you are going to do with your personal vehicle? Change the plates to CA on that and they will want you to change your drivers license and the circle begins back to square one!
