Our daughter slips on the fold out couch with an air mattress. She constantly complains that she gets cold at night even after putting a couple of blankets between her and the air mattress. I thought I would try an electric blanket or mattress warmer for her this upcoming season, but in another thread read about the fear of electrical blankets shorting out and the fire risk associated with them. What have others used to insulate themselves (or children) from getting too cold based on the fact you are essentially floating on a big chilled pocket of air that is not insulated?Doug

We have used electric mattresses pads for over 20 years and never had an issue, both S&B and RV.

Second the heated mattress pad. Much better than an electric blanket.

I would get a memory foam mattress pad to put on it. When we tent camped and slept on an air mattress, I was always cold for a couple of hours until the air inside the mattress finally got warm from our body heat. We ended up with a sheep skin pad on it, but currently use a memory foam mattress pad on our bed ( from Walmart - no cool gel) and it keeps you cozy.

Use memory foam on the air mattress or just the memory foam by itself.

When tent camping in the winter I always put a SPACE BLANKET down on the tent floor then my sleeping pad then the sleeping bag. No electricity involved and works very well.( I forgot ONCE )
Get the real one not the emergency one, although the dollar stores in Canada have the emergency ones, so you might try an emergency one before buying the regular weight one. Put the space blanket on top of the air mattress to keep reflected heat going back to your daughter.

Been using electric blankets for 50 years, in the house and the camper. Never had a problem with any of them. When they go bad, they just simply stop heating. Throw away the controller, and now you've got just a blanket. Never had any problems with any blanket, just just die and that's it.

Use electric blankets. They are marvelous!

i haven't met a kid who can't sleep on a sheet of plywood. Maybe the air mattress isn't needed? They definitely are harder to stay warm on.

I grew up with ElectroWarmth brand mattress pads on our beds, and now we have them in our house. And I have a personal size 12v one for camping. Never had a safety issue with them.

Memory foam will work but it is bulky and heavy. I like the space blanket idea, never considered that before.

I use a goose down bag for this, although a goose down duvet or comforter would work too. Nothing insulates like good goose down. Nothing compacts for storage as well either!

Another cheap, insulated layer for sleep is a thicker yoga mat. I slept on one in our truck camper to smooth out the "dip" between the seat cushions that made up the bed. VERY comfy, and insulative. Rolls up into a small cylinder for storage; and about $20.

Bought our Sunbeam electric blanket from Walmart. We connect it to the inverter and it runs all night. We have 240W of solar and two 6V batteries. Never ever runs low. We keep it on the lowest setting and as I said the other day, under the sheets. Really warm and toasty!

I have this mat. It is wonderful to sleep on. With a R6 insulation factor you will stay warm.
