NO. Called in a few days ago and received 1 of 6 replacements today. It has the same old cheap plastic handle. I need to check the dates but it is the same model as a recall one.
Well ..... I have to ask since no one has mentioned it: Do the fire extinguishers that Kiddie sends out as replacements now have steel handles? I sure hope so .... I don't trust anything but metal in applications like this!!
CORRECTION: The replacement is indeed metal vs. plastic. That's all I'm saying. - pnicholsExplorer IIWell ..... When extinguishers tag is outdated guess what they do to the extinguisher "IF" the gauge is in the green? They turn it upside down tap it with a rubber mallet and add a new tag. Bingo!
Umm.. NO. Not "always" the case.
Good quality vendors have a complete MOBILE BOX TRUCK in which they will discharge, remove valve assembly, rebuild the valve assembly then refill.
They will also check the dates and if the date is too old they will send the unit out to a outside shop which can hydro test the unit and re-certify for use.
My DW works in a refinery so she does know a few things about this since she also pays the bills for the vendor along with the fact that she has to participate in safety drills and such ..
Even got a great deal on a 10 lb new reload-able extinguisher :B we should have bought a few more at the price she got since her Company has never made that offer again :M
We can even take our unit back to her Company to have it recertified and reloaded when needed and when the vendor comes in to check the plants units.
My company, I can tell you this, all extinguishers that are found out of date ARE REMOVED from the plant and LOANER UNITS are used as temporary replacements until the vendor returns a couple of weeks later. I highly doubt they are simply tapping the units with a rubber hammer and retagging..
I would suspect any good quality extinguisher service company would NEVER be willing to RISK their business on shady practices as you have implied they do. - westendExplorerThanks for posting this, IAMICHABOD.
That recall timeline is 42 years. Yikes! - PuddlesExplorerSo, one in our RV and one on the garage wall are on the recall list.. walking thru a Menards today and notice the same looking extinguisher on the shelf for sale. Opened the box... same model #'s as the ones I just filled out the recall form for. ??? Guess it's a BUYER BEWARE deal.. :(
- nineoaks2004ExplorerChecked mine but luckily it is a First Alert B/ C type.

RV's weigh enough without the addition of an 'adult sized' fire extinguisher.
I have a few 'adult' sized ones in my shop that are maintained by a local fire prevention company and they weigh around 50 pounds each.
I'm not about to tote one (or more) around in my unit. Besides, it's insured against loss by fire.
Sorry a 50# extinguisher is NOT needed and I highly doubt yours weigh anywhere that much.
This is more than enough for home or RV use! I used this in every commercial Medical or Dental clinic I built. 9.5# I think is NOT too much to add to a RV!!!

- wa8yxmExplorer IIII have 4 extinguishers in my RV
Two are "All Fire" types from Mac-The-Fire-Guy
One is the king where i need to check it when I have internet in the RV
and the 4th is 25 pounds. lives behind the driver's seat.
I'd be grabbing either the big powder bottle or the foam cans if there was a fire. I'd be ignoring the little job.
