Kitchen Smoke Detectors

Me, too. I dread reading a certain Dodge forum because it demands a Captcha and it isn’t clear what it wants. Glad there aren’t any Captchas in this forum at least via the Good Sam portal.

I hated the smoke detector in my 20 foot TT. The smallest amount of smoke would cooking would set it off. For sure Toast was a major culprit. Last year I found a newer one that was suppose to be less sensitive. It seemed to work and be what I needed. The weather has been bad this spring and I have only been camping once ( it sucks) . The other day while walking by the camper I heard the smoke detector going off. (There was obviously no smoke) I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, I just pulled the battery.

It was over 95f degrees in the camper that was setting in the metal shed that day.( Maybe over 100) Do these things go off when they get to hot ??????

Ours was near the stove and even with the fan hoods rolling on high the darn thing goes off even without smoke or some sense of true smoke/fire danger.

Took battery out. Installed a new one just behind the wall in the hallway leading to bedroom. Done deal. No more cooking troubles at all.

This is a very short span, we did not compromise safety for this short move on a new on installed.

What a true PIA when wanting to use your stove top for real cooking. Drove us nuts til we fixed the problem fine.

Thx. for the link. The info. in that link refers to "rate of rise" which is normally related to heat/thermal detectors which are either rate of rise or fixed temperature types. A rate of rise type is triggered by temp. quickly rising above a set rate. I wonder if the kitchen-rated detector is simply a combination of standard heat and smoke detector technology and there's nothing new or unique about the smoke detection part? It does make a reference to a UL standard. Reason I'm curious is I used to design FA systems.

I also have to wonder what the regulations/code say about when and where you can use one? I wouldn't think you could just re & Re your old standard smoke alarm with a kitchen-rated one?

If you have lots of false alarms you might think about one.

I bought this one earlier this year. First one was bad out of the box, the replacement seems fine. It is recommended for kitchens.

But some folks seem to think a top seller would be a Smoke Alarm that goes silent if you holler I'M JUST COOKING!!!
