Has anyone explored the limits of using a lawn tractor to spot their trailers? I have a Sears Lawn Tractor with a V-twin engine and hydraulic drive. I know there's definitely a fairly low limit on the size of trailer that could be moved this way, but how have you rigged your lawn tractor and what size trailer have you had success moving?
I moved a 3400 lb 18' bass boat/trailer for 9 years with a 18 hp 1982 Gilson (montgomery Ward)/cast iron 4 speed transaxle garden size tractor , about 250 feet up and down a slight grade to the trailer barn. I always left the tongue jack with a wheel just high enough so the tractor couldn't wheelie over backwards. The trailer had 280 lbs of hitch weight. The garden tractor had 23/8:50-12" tires that carried the weight just fine.
