As a LEO we get these calls from time to time. As stated in other posts, there is no specific age for leaving unattended children at home, at least here in Texas. When we get these calls we'll do a welfare check. Talk with the kids, check out their residence for cleanliness, access to food and emergency telephones. If the kid are seem to be neglected or in danger or there are other issues we'll refer to CPS, child protective services. Some younger kids are very responsible, some aren't. Just a case by case basis.
