I'm shocked by the responses here.
My kids are 12, 10 and 6, so I have recent experience with the age group.
It is unacceptable for those two children to be left alone all day, everyday.
Honestly, I wouldn't beat around the bush. I'd come right out and tell her that I've noticed her kids are home alone all day long and ask her if everything is ok. If she's at work, and seems like she's being truthful, I'd try to find a babysitter for her.
If the situation seems shady.....well, I'd have to do what I thought was best for the kids.
A single mom that lost her house and is trying to make a living could use the help of locating a cheap babysitter.
In a different situation, those kids could have a lot of neglect going on that you don't know about.
And like someone else said, if you noticed they are alone all day, so has someone else!
