It has been an interesting conversation. I think 7 years old is too young to be home without an adult. I understand that a 9 year old is "watching" the 7 year old but that's a lot of responsibility to put on the shoulders of someone so young. Imagine how that 9 year old is going to feel if something horrible happens to the 7 year old. I'm surprised at the number of people who think that a 7 year old and 9 year old are OK to be left home alone, let alone in a campground with strangers all around.
I really don't know the solution to this. There are too many variables. If the mother is truly going to work (nobody knows this for sure), I have a different feeling about this whole thing than if she is doing something else. I live in Washington and know that state daycare assistance is available.
