Not sure if I qualify as "younger" but I am guessing being in my mid-thirties with young kids, I am basically the age group you're referring too.
Personally, I have it way better than my parents ever did. They married as teenagers, had kids right away and never had extra cash til their youngest was in high school.
They demanded that their 3 children get college degrees and even paid for them. At the age of 22 I had a bachelors degree, zero debt, and a HUGE jump start on my peers without a college degree.
Currently, I have a few friends that like to camp but can't go as often as they would like due to kid's extracirricular activities (football and band start rehearsal in mid July and require daily commitment to rehearse). I have family that use any money I would have for vacation toward their kid's travel baseball/soccer etc. Those sports can cost $1500 for a summer session. By the time parents pay for those activities, they have nothing left, either money OR time to go anywhere else. I think probably over scheduling of kids lives is probably the cause of what you're witnessing. When I was growing up kids didn't participate in half of the activities that they do now.
My biggest obstacle is getting someone that wants to camp. Most people see it as on inconvenience to spend time at a campground. Their loss I guess.
Our kids are 11, 9 and 5. When we choose a campground we look for activities geared toward their ages and typically the campground is over-run with young families and their small children.
So my perspective is probably different than yours, but I'm not seeing what you're referring to.
