From what I see with kids these days is they grow up needing to be entertained instead of doing what kids grew up doing in decades past. You could put some of the blame on modern technology.
Instead of interaction with others they are consumed by video games for hours on end or text messaging instead of actual one on one conversation. Internet and computers has provided a out for people to hide behind or get caught up with.
The thought to many young people to walk through the woods or learn about nature or surviving the elements is not part of their agenda in life. Playing in humid 90 degree weather, climbing trees, hunting insects, building forts, playing cowboys & Indians, throwing a frisbee, walking the dog, going hiking, etc etc are becoming things people use to do.
Sitting in air conditioning or a heated home or hotel room engaged in multi media is the the new way of life. They can be anyone they want even if their not. Individual identity is more of conformance to what they see on TV or hear in the music or sites they frequent on the web.
Kids don't have the creativity anymore many of us grew with. To many of them camping is work and not fun. I've seen it in my own family where the kids are inside the fiver playing video games the whole time out.
It's not the money, it's a different world from what it use to be.
