Disagree with the premise.
(Several actually - and nothing to do with politics, LOL!)
What type of camping did you do when you were "young"?
Did it have anything to do with "age related" activities?
Off-road M/Cs, ATVs, water or snow skiing, dune buggies, etc.
Or did you like to go 'camp' in the woods, and just be nature's friend?
Maybe just go to a lake and go fishing?
*If* you did lots of things in the first grouping - do you still do that now?
Do you 'camp' where those activities are happening - or do you prefer peace and quiet?
What is or was your occupation?
When I was in my late 20's - my (new) occupation gave me every third week off - along with a bunch of other like-minded folks.
Some spouses worked - some didn't. Some working spouses had occupations that were 'compatible' with our pursuits.
The same group of (young/er) folks in my former occupation-still do all the same things. (except more improved toys, LOL)
But - I no longer have a ski boat, don't snow ski or snowboard anymore, sold my surfboard long ago - but still hit the dunes from time to time.
I'd much rather swim in a pool than the Pacific O.
So - I probably don't see "as many" young folks as I did before, but
think there's just as many out having fun.
A friend with an 'office' job - spent his entire working career doing
4 days at work - three days at the CO. river.
IMO - two jobs now - as it did "then" just meant more toys for those who liked to play. More affluent toys (new car, bigger house, etc.) for those who weren't interested in camping anyway.
