If you sell much on CL, you will run into scammers sooner or later. They are out there looking for gullible victims. Scam emails go straight into our junk folders and get deleted pdq.
Lately scammers have been targeting refugees and new immigrants to Canada (and I assume the US too). Scammers phone them claiming to be gov't officials and tell them they owe the gov't money and if they don't pay thousands to them right away, they and/or their family members will be deported immediately as outlined in
this news report for example.Have seen a couple of Dr. Phil episodes where catfish in Nigeria are scamming older women they find on dating sites. The women claimed to be in love with men they never even met yet they sent hundreds of thousands of $$ to them for all sorts of reasons imaginable.
My elderly FIL got scammed out of $10K by a woman significantly younger than him. It seems he thought he was going to get a little lovin' in exchange for loaning her $10K for some kind of emergency. Turned out the woman had a criminal record for previous fraud.
Scams are all around us and you need to be vigilant. It's a pretty sad world we live in.
