License plates by weight

Here in Ohio, pickup trucks, vans, SUV's are registered the same as cars, thus no designation of registered weight. I see many people talking about buying a plate for XXXX lbs. How many states require a declared weight for license plates?

    Every state offers commercial plates by weight class. The question is really how they apply them to the non-commercial pickup truck consumer. RV's are often exempted but if you pull a non RV trailer it becomes a concern. Some states like Indiana offer multiple plates so even if I'm registered for 9,000#, the plate may or may not list the weight based on design but it will be listed on the registration slip.
