Once Again- What's the purpose of your survey????
It seems to me that you keep bringing up the "what is the purpose" question in a way that infers I have some ulterior motive. Does every person insisting you tow with a 3/4 or one ton, have a hidden agenda to sell new trucks? Are those suggesting the use of surge protectors, all shells for Progressive Industrie?
I tend to be a bit safety conscious. I also believe that knowledge breeds understanding, and understanding your "set-up" promotes safe operation. I would never just jump into a vehicle that I did not understand, and figure it out on a 3,000 mile trip across the country. Putting other people's life in danger while I learn, seems pretty stupid to me.
Having read numerous post on this forum (and others) it appears that many go with the" live and learn" mentality. Which is why there are so many DEBATES concerning towing set ups, and so many questions on "how to". For me, many of these questions need to have already been settled before that person ever gets behind the wheel. Having seen many, many, many BAD set-ups heading down the road, it is obvious (at least to me) that many would benefits from the information that could be gained by a licensing process.
Not everyone takes the time to operate safely....we have all seen them on the road, laugh at (or maybe help) them in the CGs. So my question was just to see how many of us that LOVE our form of recreation/life style would put the "D@m# DMV just wants more money" attitude aside, and consider this subject as a SAFETY matter. Plus, look at it this way......do you think that white-knuckled dad yelling at the kids to shut up, is enjoying the camping trip? Is he going to stick with it, encourage his friends to come along, or just go get a hotel? Of course, requiring a license can also scare off many potential NEWBIES, but is that really a bad thing if they don't want to take the time to do it right?
