I've been on brand specific websites that those folks had issues in the time frame you mention with certain lines in that brand. Its rare now for those kinds of issues to pop up in those same lines in the same brand.
The point is one size don't fit all.
Some brands have forums for their owners. I would do a google for those brands/forums your interested in (if any) and ask questions there.
