List of towed (toad) vehicles

Is there a list of vehicles (cars or pickups) that can be towed behind a motorhome with all four wheels on the ground? Also, are there any that can be towed if they have automatic transmission?

  • We towed a Toyota Highlander with a Remco lube pump for 5+ years - no problems.
We now tow a Jeep Cherokee automatic. Only certain models are towable. Tows well but sure is a PITA to do all the connections - lube pump was so easy in comparison.
  • Many Ford products with automatic tranny are towable 4 down including all the their hybrids since the introduction of the early model Escape hybrid in 2006. That includes Fusion hybrids and Lincoln MKZ hybrids as well as the C-Max.

Most models of the Fiesta and Focus (since 2012) are towable 4 down with automatic tranny. Also Edge and Flex models. As stated above, always check the owners manuals under Recreation Towing to be sure.
  • Yes, quite a few can be towed even if they have an automatic tansmission (using a tramsmission lube pump). We are on our 2nd towd vehicle using the lube pump - works good.

Check out Remco's vehicle list at: http://www.remcoindustries.com/Towing/Store.php
  • Thats so true, most salesmen or women have no clue as to what is or isn't towable behind a motorhome, especially when asking about a used vehicle. If their isn't even a manual in the glove box ask them to find one and show you in a manual that it can be towed.
  • The trailer life guides are a place to start but often changes occur, or a model is omitted, e.g., the Honda HR-V manual transmission version is towable.
  • There are many with auto trans that can be towed. Obviously the most popular is the Jeep (different models). Coming in second is probably the 2014 and below Honda CRV. From there the list gets quite dispersed. Check my signature for mine.

The best way to go about finding a toad for your MH, is to first find the type of car you like and fits your need as a toad and family car when not being towed. Much easier than looking at a list that may or may not be correct.

THEN look at the "Owners Manual" that comes with the car. Under the Recreational Towing section it will show you right there whether the car needs a dolly or can be towed four down.

AND seriously what ever you do if you are looking at cars at a dealership DO NOT EVER listen to the salesman when he says 'ya, sure you can tow that car'. Always check the owners manual.

Hope you have good luck finding that just right toad for your MH. :C
