- wa8yxmExplorer IIIIF you divide the cost into two parts, Wife and I used to spend about 400/month on Groceries and household supplies.. and average about 150 a month in parking, and 50 gas..
Of course this does not include telephone and insurance costs.
Today alas it's just me, and I've an additional 600/month (My Social Security is bigger than hers was). Plus I cook mostly from scratch where as she bought prepared meals.
I'd say 600/month is doable if the RV is fully paid for. - The_Dung_BeetleExplorer

This the portrait of the real American. He is making his way on his own. I am amazed at how clear his mind is and his ability to think every detail out. When we are feeling sorry for ourselves, I want to remember this guy just does it.
Amen to THAT Homer! I don't smoke (never have), but he's not a leper just because he does. I have no clue what cigarettes cost (and I noticed he does have a concerning little *hack*), but he's thinking and clear on his agenda. He's only been working on that for 3 months! He also said "I have a dry roof over my head, and I'm safe".. that's huge for a homeless person.
When my husband was very young and had just returned from Vietnam he was broke and unable to find work. He also built an insulated camper on the back of his truck, and headed to Alaska for work. I have no doubt that he looked rather "Grapes of Wrath-ish". That was over 40+ years ago, and he stayed focused (no instant gratification for him). He finally landed a job and did very well for himself. I have always admired his tenacity! He was raised on a farm, and his motto has always been "You have to do what you have to do". Bravo to this guy for trying.
** I did not miss the bike frames on the wall. Who knows what he plans for those. He's pretty ingenious. Maybe he's going to make a stationary bike out of it for exercise.

Someone obviously missed the leg braces and his struggle to walk, climb stairs, etc. Apparently, he also uses the wheel chair.
And some missed the bicycle. hmmmmm. - Homer1ExplorerThis trailer looks like it was reasonably built to last. Albeit it needs some finish work, which I understood was in the plans. A final exterior finishing should make it presentable. His truck needed some cosmetic work, but on $600.00 a month, there is just so much that can be done. I do not think this is the kind of guy who would go to resorts and high end campgrounds. He just wants to enjoy life. I don't think he will ever be completely done with his passion.
- stetwoodExplorerIt is really tough to see people living in such conditions when we have McMansions built for just a couple. I wonder what those Resort Parks would say about his rebuilt trailer.
- 2324delkExplorerI sure do like the ending of this topic.
I worked with a fellow for over 30 years who had MS. He would fall all the time, and would get angry if someone tried to help him up.
I tried to help him up once and he told me he did not need my pity.
I told him I wasn't doing it because I pity him. I just needed to do something to make myself feel better. And that I saved my pity for those that really needed it.
He stuck his hand out and grabbed mine. And I swear, if I was around when he fell after that day He would just look me in the eye and wait. Just before he retired he was having a real hard time getting up and I would grab him around the waist and tell him no sleeping on the job. ( I was a boss again at the time)
Sorry for the long story but this guy reminded me so much of him. - Deb_and_Ed_MExplorer II

It is painful to read how callous some people can be with literally no information about the individual or his situation… I think the guy has a great attitude and is well adjusted and making the best of the situation he must confront every day… he is proud of himself and I didn’t hear one poor me from him…
I agree! I thought he was pretty ingenious!!! - JJBIRISHExplorerI have a cousin that was discharged from the military with 100% disability (MS) guaranteed income and health care…
since school he always wanted to work for a popular bottling company of soft drinks, it was a real passion of his…
He managed to get that job and gave up his military disability claim to do it… with great difficulty he worked for many years with progressive MS until just weeks before he was eligible for a pension and some mental giant decided he was all of a sudden to much of a liability for the company and let him go from the only job and company he ever wanted to work for… for some strange reason he still holds the company in high regard even though he was a exemplarily employee and got screwed in the end by them, he feels they did him a favor by allowing him to work there… IMHO while there is some truth to that, he gave more than he received and left with the knife still stuck in his back…
To this day he’s the first to offer to help others, he raises a lot of money for MS every year and volunteers at the VA center on a regular basis…
In many ways he reminds me of the fellow in the u-tube, ant some would make the same dumb remarks about him because they are ignorant to the facts or truths…

Says who?
If he has a disease that is considered fatal, he is entitled to disability. - hitchupExplorer
