I am curious: What's the point? is there truly a market for used/stolen travel trailers?
Some people steal just to steal. I remember about 15 years ago the big thing in my area was robbing people of their cell phones. There is zero market for a stolen cell phone, because the victim can report the theft and the carrier can remotely disable the phone. That didn't matter, criminals gotta criminal. They'd steal them for sport.
An RV... if you have a piece of land and want a semi permanent trailer, why not steal one. Steal it, drive it 30 miles away (before the owner knows its stolen) and park it on your land and remove the tag (because its "permanent" now). The odds that a cop will take notice of it and have a legal reason to get close enough to verify the VIN are ridiculously low. When the trailer gets too decrepit, haul it out and dump it a couple miles away and steal another.
I'm guessing it doesn't happen often, but it could. More likely is stealing items of value from inside (battery, fridge, AC, heater, fuel, tv, radio, etc) and selling those items.
As many have mentioned, meth lab.
Or, just criminals being criminals. Joy rides and what not. I've been a cop for 19+ years... I don't think I've ever run the tags of a single RV. Very few stolen in my area, so I don't even think about it.
