Propane Compartment doors are NOT suppose to be locked (easy access to service valves if needed)
Just about every fifth wheel has propane in the lockable front compartment or lockable side compartments.
I see no reason for public access.
Many years ago when a class A turned 90 degrees sideways on I-5 and ended up with its rear on the Jersey barricade right in front of us, I was chatting with the elderly driver until help arrived. One of the first things a fireman arriving on scene asked was "did you shut off the propane?"
While I may not have thought to turn it off in my youth, plenty of others might have and there is good reason for public access.
The compartment on our truck camper is also labeled with a red sticker for good reason.
