Interesting idea! It seems like a great way to display photos in the same way without replacing the entire table. I wonder if a 1/8" lip could be added to the table to hold the panel in place.

I will see if I can explain this in a way that makes sense. My SIL took thin wall paneling and cut three separate pieces that cover her table. On the grooved side she glued felt into the grooves to make a pad as well as a semi non slip surface. On the smooth side she used copies of photos (all from a single trip or event) and hogpoged (some sort of clear craft glue) the pictures to the boards. She then places these on top of the dinette table almost like a big place mat. So far she has five different sets that she changes out. They hold up fairly well and she can always remove and glue new pictures in if needed.
She stores them in the back of the closet up against the wall behind the hanging clothes. A little awkward to get to but they are a little big to easily store.
