looking for a toad

We have little to no experience with towing a vehicle behind our Class A (other than on a UHaul). We are looking for a small car, automatic transmission. What suggestions do you have for a tow vehicle that can be flat towed? Are there modifications that need to be made? We were looking at a Suzuki X90 (compact version of a Tracker) but got screwed over at the last minute by the owner. They are hard to come by here, so we are looking at alternatives. Suggestions?

  • I have no input here except to confirm that Subarus cannot be flat towed, or any kind of towed. We were explicitly told when we got my wife`s Forester that they can only be flatbedded.
  • I've seen a few Smart Cars being towed; they are "semi automatic" - you have to shift to change gears, but there's no clutch. My old Honda (way old) was like that.
  • no subaru reportedly can be towed 4 down with an automatic. Many cars cannot be towed with an automatic but some folks here say they do anyhow! We bought a new Hyundai with a 6speed manual tows like a charm and the clutch is so easy that there is no issue with legs etc.
  • I would say there are plenty of cars that can be towed 4 down, just look around at the MH's on the road. there are as many cars as there are different MH's.
