Low clearance - cut this off?

I cut off several inches on a couple of those, including the one I've been using for more than ten years. No problems what so ever.

i would cut it off. Just leave enough material so it doesn't compromise the bolt hole above it.

I would cut it off, but leave it a little longer than the equalizer bars hang down. You may wind up having to replace them in the future

If you are that tight on ground clearance you may be better off with a trunnion type setup.

Sorry, looks like you pointed to the drop hitch. I agree you could cut that or try a different drop.

Yes you can trim it down a bit. But make sure you're only trimming the part that's in free air. I wouldn't cut anything that is between the clamped pieces.

If you want to avoid cutting you could try disassembling the hitch and flipping that part over. But my guess is then it will stick up too high and interfere with the tailgate opening.

Easiest way is to flip the bar over so the extra is on top. No issue being in the way of the tailgate, not in my setup anyway.

He needs the drop shank to make the rig level, but it's a little too long and hits the ground. So cutting it off makes sense, but flipping it over doesn't...

My tailgate is already blocked by the propane tanks and tongue jack controls anyway.

Cutting will help your ground clearance issue but not solve it.

According to the OP, the issue is with the extra unused drop on the stinger drags on the ground through driveways. If he removes the two side bolts and turns it over he might gain enough clearance. This probably will not work if his hitch is currently much below the receiver. But it might be worth looking into.
