LP Tank connections leaking

One of my LP tank connections (the one right at the tank) was leaking a little.

So, I put new connectors on (hose, big green screw ons, new brass insides) and darn if now they aren't BOTH leaking.

Is there some sort of O-ring / washer inside of the tank fittings that needs to be replaced?

It's not too bad, but the smell is unmistakeable. I was able to solve the problem by inserting a nice sized rubber washer- the washer was not designed for this use, but the fit was very good.

I'm ok with continuing this way- but then again, I'm not sure if I can sleep knowing that the LP-connection police could possibly cite me for this deviation from official process!

Thanks for any insight.

  • If the o ring is bad in the tank valve you will need a new valve. It is not a replacement item. I t is also NOT a standard o ring. It has a square cross section. It seems dumb but what cha gonna do.
  • Do you refill by yourself or do you take it to a station? The OP was talking about "re-plumbing" not re-filling!

So, when your tank gets empty, you are supposed to call a professional?

So why the big plastic, easy-to-unscrew attachments? That would seem to allow anyone to remove the tank and refill it.

Looks like the Crabbin knows his limitations.

  • Go to where they sell propane and ask them for the o-ring. When I worked I had a pile of them in my desk for the forklifts.
  • Yes there is an o ring in there but from what I found on the internet you can't replace it. How old is your talk? I just replaced mine it was old anyway.
