LP Tank

I have a 23' Itasca Navion 23H The information paper said the LP tank was 18 Gal and then further down the paper work it said something about 14 Gal. When I filled the tank the outside gauge read 1/2 full after I filled it (it only took 4.5 Gal) so who/which might be correct. If it only took 4.5 gal to fill then the tank must be only 8gal?????

Thanks

To allow for expansion the tank will register full when in actuality it only holds 18 gallons. You can still trust the gauge even so.

Technically it is 18 pounds, not gallons.

    its 18 gals at 4.2 pounds = 75.6 lbs

    This ^^^^^^ guy is right.

If it was 18 pounds, it would be smaller than the 20 pound tanks you buy for your home grill. Look at the tank, it is about 3 times LARGER than the 20 pound tanks.

    That's what I said..."technically" speaking of course...
  • Your 18 GALLON tank can only be filled 80% full; which would be 14.4 gallons.
When pumping propane it is pumped by the gallon.
80% is max. whether it's 1 lb. or 1,000 lbs.

  • Forgot to answer the question---It was filled by a LP dealer with two supervisors looking on LOL.
  • I think you might have solved the problem for me. Will re-read my paper work.

A typical LP tank is in pounds not gallons, so 4.5 gallons X 4.2 pounds per gallon means you have 18 lbs. how did you fill it, or did you have someone fill it?
